Halley Posner, a junior at Bates College in Lewiston, interned in the Senate Democratic Office for her winter semester, 2017.

“Getting a chance to work behind the scenes in state government was a great experience and I will take the lessons I have learned here with me to my future career,” said Posner.

“It is always great to have young people getting involved in the Legislature,” said Sen. Nate Libby, D-Lewiston. “I’m especially proud to have another Bates student in the State House supplementing her classroom learning with some real-life experiences.”

The internship program gives students an opportunity to work in the Senate and interact with legislators. Interns see what it is like to work supporting Senators in their work representing their constituents and ushering bills through the legislative process. Interns perform such duties as: working on pertinent research, collecting data, and attending legislative sessions.
