Senator Larry Bliss was
born and raised in California, and has lived in Maine
for the past twenty years. He holds a Bachelor's Degrees
in History and Political Science from the University
of California, and a Master's Degree in Urban Public
Administration, also from the University of California.
He has worked as a middle school and high school teacher
and coach (Swimming and Water Polo), and currently
works as Director of Career Services and Professional
Life Development at the University of Southern Maine.
He is serving his first term in the Maine State
Senate, representing South Portland, Cape Elizabeth,
and part of Scarborough. Senator Bliss served in
the Maine House of Representatives for eight years.
While in the House, he served as the chair of the
Joint Standing Committee on Utilities and Energy,
for six years.
Larry and his partner, Nolan McCoy, reside in South
Portland, where they live with their three children
and dog, Sophie. Larry has been a member of the Board
of Directors of The AIDS Project, the Equity Institute
of Maine, the South Portland Citizens for Justice,
and the Maine Lesbian/Gay Political Alliance. He
is an advisor to the Equity Fund of the Maine Community
Foundation, and is a longtime member of the Surfrider
Foundation, the Friends of Casco Bay, and the Portland
Harbor Museum. |
