State Government Gets Smaller, More Efficient

Since 1990, the size of State Government has become smaller and more efficient. For example, in 1990, the number of state employees in Maine totaled close to 17,000. By contrast, the number of state employees in 2005 now total about 14,400.

This shift marks greater efficiencies by our state government and ultimately saves state taxpayers more money. With the increased use of technology and a skilled workforce, state government is doing more with less.
