Carson to serve on Communications, Financial Services and Interstate Commerce Committee
AUGUSTA — Sen. Brownie Carson, D-Harpswell, has been appointed to the National Conference on State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Communications, Financial Services and Interstate Commerce Committee.
The appointment was made by the President of the Senate. Sen. Carson will serve as a representative from the Maine Senate.
“I’m interested in advocating for policies that support local community banks and Maine businesses while also enforcing regulations that protect our citizens from the excesses of big finance and banking firms. Consumer protection is a high priority,” said Sen. Carson. “I look forward to taking this perspective to the national discourse.”
Carson is a first-term legislator representing Senate District 24, which includes Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, North Yarmouth and Pownal. He serves on the Legislature’s Insurance and Financial Services Committee.
The Natural Resources and Infrastructure Committee is one of nine standing committees of the NCSL. The committee educates Congress and federal agencies about state concerns. In addition, the committee also serves as a forum for state legislators and legislative staff to learn about and share information regarding programs and initiatives in other states. In particular, this committee has jurisdiction over state and federal energy, environment, agriculture and transportation programs, legislation, regulations and policies.
NCSL is a national organization that serves the interests of state legislatures by providing states support, ideas, and connections for policy and effectiveness.
