Maine Lawmakers Consider Bill to Ban Texting While Driving

Posted: March 15, 2011 | Senator Diamond, Transportation

Plenty of supporters turned out today for a hearing on a bill that would prohibit anyone from texting on their cell phones while driving a motor vehicle in Maine. Sen. Bill Diamond sponsored the measure, which calls for a $100 fine for violators. Younger drivers are frequently perceived to be the biggest texting offenders, but members of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee learned the practice is quickly being adopted by many mature adults who are caught up in what one person called a “texting addiction.”
