Miramant to chair the Marine Resources Committee for the 129th Maine Legislature
AUGUSTA — Sen. Dave Miramant, D-Camden, has been appointed by Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, to chair the Joint Standing Committee on Marine Resources for the 129th Legislative session. The Marine Resources Committee is responsible for managing commercial marine fisheries, fish species and aquaculture.
“I’m honored to be chosen to chair the Marine Resources Committee,” said Sen. Miramant. “We will work to protect our marine resources so they are sustainable for future generations, and it is my privilege to lead this effort.”
Sen. Miramant also will serve on the Legislature’s Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee, which is responsible for energy policy, the telecommunications industry, and water and sewer utilities.
After a long career in aviation, Sen. Miramant was elected to the Maine House in 2006 and the Maine Senate in 2014, where he has worked to make Maine a leader in new energy technologies.
Lawmakers are assigned to committees by the presiding officers based on their interests, experience and professional background. Joint standing committees are composed of three senators and ten representatives. The Legislature is set to reconvene Jan. 2.
