Senator John Nutting

Senator John Nutting  

Senator John Nutting, D-Androscoggin County, was born in Lewiston, Maine. He graduated from Leavitt High School in 1967 and went on to attend the University of Maine at Orono where he received his Bachelor of Science in Pre-Veterinary in 1971.

John has had a distinguished career in the Maine State Legislature, which began in 1987. He was elected to serve as a member of the House of Representatives for the 113th, 114th, and 115th Legislative Sessions. Additionally, John was also a senator in the 118th and 119th Senate Sessions, and was elected again in the fall of 2004 to serve in the 122nd Legislature as the Senator from District 17, which includes Greene, Leeds, Lisbon, Livermore, Livermore Falls, Mechanic Falls, Minot, Sabattus, Turner and Wales. In 2006, John was re-elected again to the 123rd Maine Legislature.

John currently serves as chair of the Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry committee. His primary concerns are property tax relief for citizens and the cleaning up of the Androscoggin River.


Outside of the Senate, John is a registered dairy cattle breeder. He lives in Leeds with his wife Sandra and has two sons and two grandchildren.
