Born and raised in Bangor, Joe Perry
attended John Bapst High School and the University
of Maine at Orono, where he met his wife, Jane.
With strong roots in his community, Joe was inspired
to run for public office by a desire to represent the
people of his region and the state of Maine.
In 2008, Joseph Perry was re-elected to serve his
third term as the Senator from District 32 in the 124th
Maine Legislature. Senate District 32 includes the
municipalities of Bangor and Hermon.
Prior to being elected to the Maine Senate in 2004,
Senator Perry served in the House of Representatives
for eight years. During his tenure in the House he
served on the Banking and Insurance Committee and the
Taxation Committee.
He currently serves as the Senate Chair of the Joint
Standing Committee on Taxation, and also serves as
a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Transportation.
Senator Perry also serves as the Chair of the Senate
Committee on Engrossed Bills.
Joe’s primary interests are to provide comprehensive
tax reform that will include a reduction of the overall
tax burden for Mainers with an emphasis on increasing
the incomes of Maine families. In addition to tax reform,
he is interested in making Maine more energy independent.
Currently, Joe lives in Bangor with his wife, and
their two sons, Joseph and Kyle.
