Sen. Baldacci appointed chair of State and Local Government Committee and to serve on Health and Human Services Committee
Sen. Joe Baldacci, D-Bangor, has been appointed to serve as Senate chair of the Joint Standing Committee on State and Local Government for the 130th Maine Legislature. The State and Local Government Committee is responsible for State government and property, public purchasing and contracts, Maine State Archives, state holidays and designations, county government, and municipal and local government.
“Having served on the Bangor City Council, I know how important our local municipal governments are to Mainers’ everyday lives, and I’m excited to bring that experience to the State and Local Government Committee in the Legislature,” said Sen. Baldacci.
Sen. Baldacci also will serve on the Health and Human Services Committee, which is responsible for the Department of Health and Human Services, MaineCare, child welfare, public health, health care facilities and workforce, telemedicine, substance use disorder, mental health, nursing facilities and residential care, public assistance and more.
“During my time on the Council, I worked to keep the Bangor City Nursing Home open when it was threatened with closure. I also successfully fought for the creation of paramedic and ambulance services at the Bangor Fire Department because I know how important quality health care and emergency health access is for all of us. I’ll bring that same commitment to access and affordability to my work on the Health and Human Services Committee,” said Sen. Baldacci.
Lawmakers are assigned to committees by the presiding officers based on their interests, experience and professional background. Joint standing committees are composed of three senators and ten representatives. The Legislature will reconvene in the new year.
