Sen. Carney appointed chair of Judiciary Committee
AUGUSTA — Sen. Anne Carney, D-Cape Elizabeth, has been appointed to serve as the Senate chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary for the 130th Maine Legislature. The Judiciary Committee is responsible for issues related to overseeing the Judicial budget and organization, civil and criminal procedure, legal services, civil rights, the Maine Human Rights Commission, Maine Indian Tribes and more.
“As an attorney, I practiced in the areas of employment, civil rights and municipal law,” said Sen. Carney. “I am excited to work with my House and Senate colleagues on the Judiciary Committee, and eager to put my experience to work for the people of Maine.”
Sen. Carney also will serve on the Environmental and Natural Resources Committee, which is responsible for protecting the environment, ensuring quality standards for natural resources are maintained and more.
Lawmakers are assigned to committees by the presiding officers based on their interests, experience and professional background. Joint standing committees are composed of three senators and ten representatives. The Legislature will reconvene in the new year.
