Sen. Deschambault earns perfect score for voting record on reproductive rights
AUGUSTA – Sen. Susan Deschambault, D-Biddeford, earned a perfect score from Planned Parenthood Maine for votes to protect reproductive rights and improve access to health care. Sen. Deschambault is one of 21 senators to earn a perfect score for their 2021-2022 voting record.
“I am proud to have earned a 100% score from Planned Parenthood Maine on my votes protecting abortion access and securing better health care for Mainers,” Sen. Deschambault said. “Deciding whether or not to start a family is a deeply personal choice, and lawmakers should not interfere with anyone’s right to make that decision.”
Planned Parenthood scored Maine legislators on their votes on nine bills. This year, the Legislature passed a new law that requires state-regulated health insurance plans to cover contraceptives that best meet a patient’s health needs as determined by the patient and their trusted health care professional. Lawmakers also took action to better protect patients’ safety when accessing care.
In the Legislature, Sen. Deschambault voted to ensure reproductive health care providers have the funds they need to continue serving the needs of their communities. For many patients, family planning providers are the only doctors they see. Sen. Deschambault believes legislators must continue to support non-profit organizations that provide quality care to Mainers all over our state.
The Planned Parenthood location in Biddeford does not provide abortion care but does offer a wide range of important services like primary care, pregnancy services, reproductive care for women and men, STD testing and treatment, hormone therapy and much more.
