Sen. Deschambault’s bill to create a Maine Lighthouse Trust license plate clears committee
AUGUSTA — The Legislature’s Committee on Transportation approved a bill from Sen. Susan Deschambault, D-Biddeford, to create a Maine lighthouse specialty license plate on Tuesday. The bill received bipartisan support, with a vote 9 to 2.
“Maine is known around the world as ’The Lighthouse State,’ and has one of the largest concentrations of these historic beacons in the country,” said Sen. Deschambault. “As well as being visually appealing, the new Maine lighthouse license plate will be a traveling billboard helping to draw attention to our state’s historic lighthouses. I am pleased with the committee’s decision to support LD 266.”
LD 266, “An Act To Create the Maine Lighthouse Trust Registration Plate,” raises money for the Maine Lighthouse Trust so that lighthouses statewide can receive grants for maintenance and restoration, as well as spread education and awareness of these historical sentinels.
LD 266 will now go before the full Senate and House for additional votes.
