Sen. Lawrence invites local students to Augusta for Honorary Page program
AUGUSTA — With the Legislature back in session, Sen. Mark Lawrence, D-Eliot, reminds local schools and students about the Senate Honorary Page program at the State House in Augusta.
The daylong program gives students a unique opportunity not only to observe Maine’s legislative process, but to be a part of it. Students from third grade through high school are encouraged to participate.
“I welcome students to the State House who would like to be Honorary Pages, because it is a special honor,” said. Sen. Lawrence. “When they are here, I like to get to know them a bit and hear what’s important to some of the younger members of my district.”
Honorary Pages help deliver messages and distribute documents within the Senate Chamber, interact with senators and, most importantly, take part in a real-world, interactive legislative learning experience.
Sen. Lawrence sends a personal invitation to students who make Honor Roll.
The Legislature is scheduled to be in session through late June. Honorary Pages are needed throughout the session, so scheduling is flexible.
