AUGUSTA — Sen. Mike Tipping, D-Orono, was recently appointed by Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, to serve on the State Workforce Board.

“I’m looking forward to serving on the State Workforce Board and making sure the needs of our district are represented in our state’s workforce strategy,” said Sen. Tipping. “Good news about development at the former Lincoln mill and some troubling news about the Old Town mill this week highlight the quickly changing environment for workers and employers. As Chair of the Labor and Housing Committee, I believe that I can bring some insight to the board and assist its mission in promoting innovation, good wages, and lasting careers in Maine.”

The State Workforce Board is responsible for assisting the Governor in performing the duties and responsibilities required by the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014. Members of the Board represent the many facets of workforce development – business, labor, public education, higher education, economic development, youth activities, employment and training, as well as the Legislature.

The next meeting of the Board will take place on June 9, 2023.
