Sen. Rebecca Millett, D-Cape Elizabeth, has been appointed to serve on the Maine Children’s Growth Council.

The Council was created in 2008 and is comprised of lawmakers and experts in the field who work together to further social and financial investments in the healthy development of young children and their families in Maine. The group makes policy recommendations to the Governor and the Legislature, collaborates with other groups with similar goals, and works to educate Mainers about the importance of the first few years of life in a child’s developmental process.

“Making sure that all our kids get the best start in life that they can is one of my top legislative priorities,” said Sen. Millett. “I’m excited to join the other members of the Council in working towards this goal.”

Sen. Millett serves on the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee in the Legislature and co-chairs the Maine Children’s Caucus with Rep. Matt Pouliot, R-Augusta. Prior to being elected to the Legislature she served on the Cape Elizabeth School Board.

The Council meets as often as necessary, but at least six times a year.
