Sen. Vitelli to serve on Marine Resources Committee
AUGUSTA — Sen. Eloise Vitelli, D-Arrowsic, has been appointed by the Senate President to the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Marine Resources. Her role on the committee makes Sen. Vitelli the Senate Democrats’ leading voice on issues regarding the state’s lucrative fisheries and other marine industries.
“The men and women who harvest the bounty of our shores and waters often rise before the sun, and are some of the hardest-working people in our state,” said Sen. Vitelli. “Their products are iconic, and their work benefits all of us. They have contributed immensely to Maine’s reputation for high-quality food products and and its growing status as a tourist destination. Safeguarding our marine resources for future generations ensures that these industries will endure and continue to contribute to Maine’s economy and its quality of place. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve on this important committee.”
The committee has jurisdiction over the Maine Department of Marine Resources, and policy regarding commercial marine fisheries management, licensing and enforcement; marine fish species; diadromous fish, mollusks; crustaceans; seaweed; sea urchins; sea cucumbers; processing and sale of marine fish and shellfish; and aquaculture.
