Senate authorizes renaming of Norridgewock bridge to honor the late Corporal Eugene Cole
AUGUSTA — On Wednesday, the Maine Senate unanimously voted to enact legislation renaming the Norridgewock bridge over the Kennebec River in honor of the late Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputy Corporal Eugene Cole, of Norridgewock, who was killed in the line-of-duty on April 25.
Assistant Senate Democratic Leader Nate Libby, of Lewiston and originally from Norridgewock, was the lead Senate sponsor of the legislation and released the following statement:
“Corporal Eugene Cole represented the very best of Norridgewock. Renaming this iconic bridge in his honor represents a lasting tribute to his memory and service. We could all learn a lot from the life and wisdom of Cpl. Cole. I hope that when people drive over the Cpl. Eugene Cole Memorial Bridge, they are reminded of his legacy and his profound commitment to family, community and public safety.”
