Senator Chipman appointed chair of Taxation Committee
AUGUSTA — Sen. Ben Chipman, D-Portland, has been appointed to serve as Senate chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Taxation for the 130th Maine Legislature. The Taxation Committee is responsible for the Bureau of Revenue Services and State Property Tax Review Board, taxpayer relief programs, and state and local taxes.
“I’m honored to be chosen to once again chair the Taxation Committee,” said Sen. Chipman. “I continue to prioritize working people to make sure we have a fair and balanced tax system that generates the revenue needed to pay for important services such as education, health and human services and transportation.”
Sen. Chipman also will serve on the Transportation Committee, which is responsible for the Department of Transportation, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Maine Turnpike Authority, and other motor vehicle, highway and transportation issues.
Lawmakers are assigned to committees by the presiding officers based on their interests, experience and professional background. Joint standing committees are composed of three senators and ten representatives. The Legislature will reconvene in the new year.
