SENATOR STAN GERZOFSKY TO SERVE ON THE MAINE FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES COMMISSION

AUGUSTA – Senator Stan Gerzofsky (D-Cumberland County) has recently been appointed by the President of the Senate to serve on the Maine Fire Protection Services Commission.

Gerzofsky is the ranking Democratic Senator on the Legislature’s Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety, which overseas the subject of fire protection in Maine.

“It is an honor to serve on the commission once again,” Senator Gerzofsky said of the appointment. “I have a strong interest and deep respect for the men and women who serve and protect the people of Maine.”

He previously served two terms on the commission as a member of the House of Representatives.

The 23-member commission was established by the Maine Legislature in 1999 to monitor and evaluate the State’s fire protection services system on a continuing basis and to provide recommendations to the appropriate state agencies and to the Legislature regarding necessary changes in the fire protection services system.

Maine’s fire protection services and program is important to the Brunswick region since the inception of the Maine Fire Service Institute at the Southern Maine Community College Midcoast Campus. This session, Senator Gerzofsky worked with SMCC officials and fire chief’s around the state to garner legislative support to create the new training program.

“The future of fire training and professional development will happen here,” said Senator Gerzofsky, referring to the new SMCC program. “I am proud of the institute and all of those involved to make it a reality.”
