Work plan for state bridge and road projects unveiled

AUGUSTA – Democratic Sen. Eloise Vitelli of Arrowsic is pleased to share the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for Sagadahoc County and the town of Dresden in Lincoln County. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation projects throughout the state.

“The quality of our roads and bridges are vital for our economy and to the safety of the public,” said Sen. Vitelli. “I’m glad to see the list of infrastructure investments in Sagadahoc County and Dresden.”

According to the MDOT, the work plan includes more than $2.3 billion worth of construction and maintenance, of which $537 million is scheduled for 632 capital projects in 2017. Included are projects for highways and bridges, transit (bus), passenger and freight railroad, aviation, ferries, ports and other marine facilities, and bicycle-pedestrian access.

Sen. Vitelli stressed the importance of funding for the MDOT work plan and its investment to Sagadahoc County and Dresden. The following breakdown is what the planned capital and maintenance work will mean for these communities in 2017:

Bicycle/Pedestrian

  • Work beginning at the train station on Commercial Street in Bath and extending north 0.13 of a mile
  • Work beginning at Pleasant Street in Richmond and extending west 0.19 of a mile
  • Work beginning at the Swinging Bridge to Mill Street, Bow Street and Cabot Street, ending at Frank J. Wood Bridge connecting Topsham and Brunswick

Bridge Construction

  • Work on the Center Street Connection Bridge over Route 1 in Bath, located 0.10 of a mile north of State Road

Bridge Work (Other)

  • Work on the Max L. Wilder Memorial Bridge over the Sasonoa River located on the Arrowsic – Woolwich town line
  • Work on the Paul Davis Memorial Bridge over Route 1 in Bath, located 0.10 of a mile north of Union Street
  • Work on Route 1 Eastbound /MCRR Bridge over Maine Central Railroad in West Bath, located 0.40 of a mile southeast of the Brunswick town line

Freight

  • Preliminary Engineering to determine treatment options on Carleton Rail Bridge in Bath

Highway Light Capital Paving

  • Paving on sections of the following roads in the Gray area (Bowdoin included): Route 121, Roller Rink Road, Route 9, Route 231 and Litchfield Road
  • Paving on sections of the following streets/roads in the Richmond area: Maple Street, Second Street, Route 24, Winthrop Street, Granite Hill Road and Route 105

Highway Preservation Paving

  • Work beginning on Interstate 295 (spanning the towns of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Gardiner, Richmond, Topsham and West Gardiner) 0.53 of a mile north of Lewiston Road and extending north 19.57 miles
  • Work beginning on Interstate 295 at the Gardiner tollbooth and extending south 19.60 miles to 3.08 miles south of the Topsham town line

Highway Rehabilitation

  • Work beginning at Washington Street in Bath and extending east 0.02 of a mile

Highway Safety and Spot Improvements

  • Work beginning at Washington Street in Bath and extending northeast 0.09 of a mile to Middle Street
  • Constructing parallel acceleration lane at High Street on-ramp on Route 1 in Bath
  • Work on the Center Street Connection Bridge over Route 1 in Bath, located 0.10 of a mile north of State Road
  • Large Culvert replacements on Interstate 295 north and southbound lanes in the Richmond area, locations to be determined
  • Work beginning 0.32 of a mile south of Thwings Point Road in Woolwich and extending north 4.00 miles

Maintenance

  • Ditching and cleaning under guardrail at various locations over the length of Route 127 in Arrowsic
  • Replacing cross culvert on Route 125 in Bowdoin located 0.28 of a mile from the Litchfield Road
  • Ditching on Route 138 in Bowdoinham and Richmond beginning at the Route 201 intersection in Richmond and extending south 8.39 miles to the Bowdoin-Bowdoinham town line
  • Ditching on Indian Road in Dresden starting at the Route 128 intersection and traveling east 0.56 miles to Route 127
  • Ditching on Route 127 in Dresden and Woolwich starting in Dresden at the Route 27 intersection traveling southerly for 14.65 miles to Route 1
  • Ditching on Route 128 in Dresden and Woolwich starting in Dresden at the Route 27 intersection and traveling south for 15.20 miles, stopping at the Route 127 intersection in Woolwich
  • Replacing three cross culverts on Route 128 in Dresden that are located within 0.33 of a mile from the Patterson Road
  • Replacing two instream culverts located 0.05 of a mile north of Day Lane and 0.88 of a mile south of Orchard Hill Road
  • Removing ledge in various areas along Route 128 in Dresden and Woolwich beginning at the intersection of Route 27 and extending south to the intersection of Route 127
  • Replacing six cross culverts on Route 127 in Dresden and Woolwich
  • Replacing an instream culvert on Route 201 in Richmond and on Route 127 in Dresden
  • Removing ledge in various areas on Route 127 in Dresden, starting at the intersection of Route 27 and going south to the Woolwich town line
  • Ditching and culvert replacement on Meadow Road in preparation of the Topsham Area Light Capital Paving (LCP) project, beginning at the intersection of Route 201 and extending north 3.40 miles to the Topsham-Bowdoin town line
  • Cleaning under guardrail on Route 201 in Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Richmond starting at the Topsham town line traveling north to the Gardiner town line
  • Ditching in preparation of the Topsham Area Light Capital Paving (LCP) project, beginning at the Brunswick town line and extending 2.00 miles east to the Bath town line
