The Maine Legislature honored Emery’s Meat and Produce with a Legislative Sentiment for winning the 2017 Small Business of the Year Award from the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce. Leon Emery, his wife Denise Emery and his daughter Jessica Peavey operate the business, which was rated highly for community involvement and economic impact.

“Local, family-owned businesses like Emery’s Meat and Produce are vital to the Maine economy,” said Sen. Shenna Bellows, D-Manchester. “The Emery family exemplifies extraordinary community service and business leadership that strengthen our state.”

Sen. Bellows spoke about the contributions Emery’s Meat and Produce has made to the Gardiner area in the Maine Senate on January 31, 2017, noting that the business has a “Buy a Pound, Give a Pound” program where customers can buy a pound of meat for themselves and one for someone in need.

A Legislative Sentiment is a significant expression by the Legislature in recognition of civic and public achievements.
