Sen. Bailey shares 2022 MDOT work plan for state bridge and road projects

AUGUSTA – Sen. Donna Bailey, D-Saco, is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for Senate District 31. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.

“This time of year, when the ice, sleet and snow can make travel difficult, I always feel an extra deep sense of appreciation and gratitude for MDOT as they work to build, improve and maintain our bridges and roads,” said Sen. Bailey. “Looking ahead, I’m very excited for the towns across the district that will enjoy better bridges and roads for travel.”

According to the MDOT, the work plan covers approximately $3.17 billion worth of construction and maintenance, which includes 2,316 work items. The three-year plan estimates MDOT will invest in 115 miles of highway construction and rehabilitation; 1,057 miles of pavement preservation; 2,162 miles of light capital paving for roads and highways; 353 safety and spot improvements; and 235 bridge projects.

The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work for some communities in Senate District 31 in 2022:

Bridge and Structural Maintenance

  • In Buxton and Hollis bridge maintenance on the Salmon Falls Bridge (#3708) over the Saco River, located on the Hollis-Buxton town line.
  • In Buxton and Hollis bridge maintenance on the West Buxton Bridge (#3340) over the Saco River, located 0.07 miles west of Route 112.

Drainage Maintenance

  • In Buxton ditching on Route 22 beginning at Broadturn Road and extending northwest to Route 202.
  • In Limington ditching on Route 25 beginning at the intersection of Route 11 and extending north 4.6 miles north to the intersection of Cape Road.

Highway Paving

  • In Buxton paving Portland Road beginning at Route 202 and extending east 2.37 miles to Route 22.
  • In Buxton paving Route 4A beginning at Route 112 and extending east 0.75 miles to Route 4.
  • In Buxton paving Route 22 beginning at South Street and extending southwest 4.79 miles to Route 4.
  • In Buxton and Hollis paving Route 35 beginning at Route 4 and extending north 11.34 miles.
  • In Hollis paving Plains Road beginning at Route 5 and extending northeast 5.2 miles to Route 117.

Highway Safety and Spot Improvements

  • In Saco Business Partnership Initiative Program at the intersection of Route 1 and Flag Pond Road.

Policy, Planning and Research

  • In Saco Planning Partnership Initiative consisting of an evaluation of a new section of the Eastern Trail, including a safe way for bicyclists and pedestrians to cross the Saco River between Biddeford and Saco.

Rail

  • In Old Orchard Beach signal improvements at Railroad Crossing #053204H on Walnut Street, located north of Route 9.
