Sen. Bailey welcomes Thornton Academy Middle School student to the Maine Senate
AUGUSTA — On Tuesday, April 29, Sen. Donna Bailey, D-Saco, welcomed Thornton Academy Middle School student Annika Hedlund, as well as her chaperone Steven Hedlund, to the Senate Chamber. Annika served as an Honorary Student Page.
“I remember meeting Annika last year, and I was delighted to see her again today,” said Sen. Bailey. “Any first-time honorary student pages could look to her great example for guidance. As someone who studied European History at Bates, I was happy to learn about Annika’s passion for English Language Arts. We both enjoy reading mystery and thriller novels, including some written by Maine authors.”
On session days, the Senate Secretary’s Office manages the Honorary Student Page Program in the Maine State Senate. Open to students in third through twelfth grade, Honorary Student Pages perform various duties such as delivering messages; distributing documents within the Senate Chamber; interacting with State Senators; and — most importantly — taking part in a real world, legislative learning experience.
