Sen. Baldacci shares 2025 MDOT work plan for state bridge and road projects
AUGUSTA – Sen. Joe Baldacci, D-Bangor, is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for Senate District 9. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.
According to the Maine DOT, the three-year work plan makes a historic $4.8 billion investment in construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure across the state. It includes 2,716 individual work items for the calendar years 2025, 2026 and 2027.
In 2025, the Maine DOT will undertake numerous projects to improve transportation in Senate District 9, such as rehabilitating the Bangor Community Connector’s bus storage facility and improvements to pedestrian safety around the district.
“I am pleased to see all the projects planned for District 9 over the next three years. Ensuring that our roads, walkways and transit facilities are safe is a big priority for me not only as a state senator, but also as a resident of Bangor. I can’t wait to see the results of this incredible work,” said Sen. Baldacci. “Projects like the Community Connector improvement project will help the City achieve its climate goal of installing electric vehicle charging equipment in the future. ”
The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work by MDOT for communities in Senate District 9 in 2025:
Airport Operations
· Bangor: Allocated funds for the Bangor International Airport.
· Bangor: Making improvements on Taxiway A for the Bangor International Airport.
Bicycle/Bus/Pedestrian
· Bangor: Conduct study under the Village Partnership Planning Initiative to evaluate pedestrian and bicycle accessibility, safety/mobility improvements and economic development opportunities along Route 1A, Hammond Street, Route 2, State Street and Center Street.
· Bangor: Operating Assistance for the City of Bangor Community Connector.
· Bangor: The Community Connector will receive funding to rehabilitate its bus storage facility.
· Bangor: Transit Capital Assistance for the Bangor Community Connector for urbanized area transit.
· Bangor: Creation of the Penobscot River Bikeshare System, for 10 bike share stations and 50 bikes.
Highway Construction/Rehabilitation and Safety Improvements
· Bangor: Planning and demonstration grant for Safe Streets and Roads for All program.
· Bangor: Construction of diverging diamond interchange on Hogan Road/ Interstate 95 Exit 187 and Hogan Road/ I-95 Bridge over Interstate 95. Located 0.26 of a mile north of Haskell Road.
· Hermon: New Construction (5 Spurs, 7120′).
· Hermon: Pedestrian safety improvements on Billings Road, including a sidewalk on the west side of the road extending to Schoolhouse Lane.
· Hermon: Improving Cross culvert located 0.29 of a mile east of the Cold Brook Road.
Highway Paving
· Bangor: Beginning at Ohio Street and extending northeast 0.37 of a mile to Valley Avenue.
· Bangor: Beginning at Davis Road and extending east 1.50 miles to Griffin Road.
· Bangor: Beginning at Route 1A and extending west 4.93 miles. Includes all approaches and ramps.
· Bangor: Beginning at Odlin Road and extending east 4.77 miles. Includes all approaches and ramps.
· Bangor: Beginning 0.02 of a mile northeast of Meadowbrook Road and extending northeast 4.14 miles to Kelley Road.
· Hermon: Beginning at the Bangor town line and extending west 1.32 miles to Coldbrook Road.
Policy, Planning, and Research
· Bangor: Transit Administrative Assistance for Federal Transit Administration 5311 for statewide non-urbanized transit.
· Bangor: Transit Operating Assistance for Federal Transit Administration 5311 for statewide non-urbanized transit.
· Bangor: Transit American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Operating Assistance for Bangor, Community Connector, Federal Transit Administration 5307 for urbanized area transit.
· Bangor: FTA Section 5339 for Capital Assistance – Bangor, Community Connector bus service – will apply to FTA directly.
· Hermon: Spot improvements located at the intersection of Route 2 and Billings Road.
System Operations
· Bangor: Installing new and replacing old traffic signals.
