Sen. Craig Hickman welcomes West Gardiner students to the Maine Senate
AUGUSTA — On Tuesday, April 23, Senator Craig Hickman, D-Winthrop, welcomed Josie and Thomas of West Gardiner to the Senate Chamber. Josie, who is in seventh grade at Gardiner Middle School, and Thomas, who is a fourth grader at River View Community School, served as Honorary Pages in the Senate Chamber.
“It brings me great joy to see young people from my district get involved in public service,” said Sen. Hickman. “Josie and Thomas are old pros by now, and I am excited to see them every year when they come to the Legislature. I hope that Josie and Thomas will keep coming back and that they will encourage their friends and classmates to get further involved in our government to ensure it keeps working for the people.”
On session days, the Senate Secretary’s Office manages the Honorary Page Program in the Maine State Senate. Open to students in third through twelfth grade, Honorary Pages perform various duties such as delivering messages, distributing documents within the Senate Chamber, interacting with State Senators and — most importantly — taking part in real-world, legislative learning experiences.
