Sen. LaFountain shares 2024 MDOT work plan for state bridge and road projects
AUGUSTA – Sen. Dave LaFountain, D-Winslow, is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for Senate District 16. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.
“Over the next three years, our community will greatly benefit from these necessary investments, approved by the Legislature on a unanimous, bipartisan basis,” said Sen. LaFountain. “Our constituents deserve safe and improved roads, bridges, highways and ports, and this work plan will ensure their safety and the long-term viability of our infrastructure.”
According to the MDOT, the work plan covers approximately $4.74 billion worth of construction and maintenance, which includes 2,672 work items. In addition to maintenance and rehabilitation to highways, bridges and major state routes, the work plan also includes improvements to Maine’s seaports, airports and pedestrian areas. This year’s work plan represents an increased investment through a bipartisan Highway Budget.
The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work for communities in Senate District 16 in 2024:
Bridge and Structural Maintenance
- In Albion, replacing worn surface on McDonald Bridge (#2529), which carries Robbins Road over 15 Mile Stream
- In Fairfield, replacing worn surface on I-95 Bridges (#1455, #1456, #5999)
- In Oakland, painting beam ends and bearings on South Bridge (#3494), which carries Route 23 over Messalonskee Stream
- In Waterville and Fairfield, replacing worn surface on I-95 Bridges (#1459, #1458, #1457, #1456, #1455, #5999, #5816, #5817, #1466, #5787)
Drainage Maintenance
- In Albion, ditching and replacing culverts on Albion Road and Winslow Road in various places, beginning at the intersection of Foss Hill Road and extending 3.8 miles to Main Street
- In Albion, ditching and replacing culverts, beginning at the intersection of Old Albion Road in Winslow and extending 4 miles southeast to the intersection of Taylor Road
- In Oakland, ditching and replacing culverts on Route 23 in various places, beginning at the intersection of Route 8 and extending 15.46 miles north to the Sidney/Oakland town line
- In Winslow, ditching and replacing culverts on Albion Road and Winslow Road in various places, beginning at the intersection of Old Albion Road in Winslow and extending 4 miles southeast to the intersection of Taylor Road in Albion
Highway Construction/Rural Highway Rehabilitation
- In Fairfield, rehabilitating highway on Route 23, beginning at Route 201 and extending 3.16 miles to the Canaan town line
- In Oakland, improving shoulders on Trafton Road, beginning at Middle Road and extending east 1.44 miles
The three-year MDOT work plan will bring approximately $5,670,000 to Senate District 16 in infrastructure improvements in 2024.
