Sen. Rafferty shares MDOT work plan for state bridge and road projects
AUGUSTA – Sen. Joe Rafferty, D-Kennebunk, is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for Senate District #34. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.
“I was glad to see what was on the MDOT work plan for District 34,” said Sen. Rafferty. “We are hopeful these planned maintenance milestones will be met and are looking forward to safer transportation routes.”
According to the MDOT, the work plan covers a historic $4.74 billion worth of construction and maintenance. This is thanks to a vital bipartisan investment approved in the Legislature last year. A more detailed breakdown of the statewide, three-year plan can be found here.
The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work for some communities in Senate District #34 in 2024:
Bridge Rehabilitation
- In Kennebunk, highway-bridges and bridge replacement will take place along Route 35 Days Mill Bridge (#2221) over Kennebunk River. Located 0.02 of a mile north of Days Mills Road.
Bridge and Structural Maintenance
- In Berwick, bridge and structural maintenance of a New Dam Road including repairing joint headers and replacing joint seal on the New Dam Bridge (#6053) which carries New Dam Road over Salmon Falls River in Berwick. Located 0.41 of a mile northwest of the intersection of Route 236.
- In Kennebunk, highway-bridges and bridge Replacement – PE only Parsons Beach Road Stoney Bridge (#1269) over Back Creek. Located 0.39 of a mile south of Route 9.
- The Kennebunkport Bridge will experience structural maintenance along Mills Road repairing drains, seal, and header and painting bearings and beam ends on Mill Pond Bridge (#3852) which carries Mills Road over Batson River in Kennebunkport. Located 210 feet south of the intersection of Beachwood Avenue.
- In Wells, bridge and structural maintenance along Mile Road repairing wearing surface and approaches on Island Ledge Road Bridge (#3175) which carries Mile Road over the Webhannet River in Wells. Located 0.42 of a mile west of the intersection of Webhannet Drive.
Highway Paving/Rehabilitation
- In Kennebunk, highway paving and light capital paving will take place along Route 99 beginning at Mill Street and extending west 4.33 miles to the Sanford town line.
- In Kennebunk, highway paving and light capital paving will take place along Route 35 beginning 0.07 of a mile north of Thompson Road and extending north 3.73 miles.
- In Kennebunkport, highway paving and light capital paving along Log Cabin Road beginning at Spring Street and extending west 5.04 miles. Including paved shoulders.
- In Kennebunkport, highway paving and light capital paving along Route 9 beginning at Maine Street and extending northeast 3.77 miles.
- In North Berwick, highway paving and light capital paving will take place along Lebanon Road beginning at Route 4 and extending north 1.89 miles to Valley Road.
- Marine Building Reconstruction
- In Kennebunkport, Ports-Harbors Marine Buildings and facilities reconstruction for Cape Porpoise Pier includes Phase 3 Bait shed demolition and reconstruction located at the end of Pier Road.
- In Kennebunkport, Ports-Harbors Piers, floats and fenders rehabilitation Cape Porpoise Pier – Phase 2 Wharf improvements located at the end of Pier Road.
Highway Safety and Spot Improvements
- In Berwick, expect highway safety and spot improvements along urban highways for highway improvement – PE Only Route 236 beginning 0.02 of a mile northwest of the South Berwick town line and extending northwest 2.12 miles.
Policy, Planning and Research
- In Kennebunk, North Berwick and Wells; Policy, Planning and Research Planning covers feasibility studies for Eastern Trail Planning Partnership Initiative. Which will evaluate Eastern Trail alternatives and make a recommendation for a new location to connect gaps in North and South Berwick, Kittery, Maine and Portsmouth New Hampshire border.
- In Wells Policy, Planning and Research Planning Feasibility studies Route 1 planning partnership initiative. This will identify ways to improve safety and accessibility along Route 1 in Wells while complimenting economic development. Beginning at the Ogunquit town line and extending north 5.60 miles to Port Road.
General Operating Assistance
- In Berwick, system operations by others transit – including general operating assistance for urban transit operating FTA Section 5307 for operating assistance – Kittery Area Comprehensive Transportation System (KACTS) urban area (Dover/Rochester).
Drainage Maintenance
- In Berwick, expect drainage maintenance along Hubbard Road and replacing culverts (#1080306, #1080310) on Hubbard Road in Berwick. Located 0.98 of a mile and 1.02 miles southeast of the intersection of Keay Road, respectively.
- In Kennebunk, drainage maintenance on Route 99 ditching on Route 99 in Kennebunk. Beginning at the intersection of High Street and extending 2.23 miles northwest to the intersection of Mill Street.
- In Kennebunk, drainage maintenance on Route 35 and ditching on Route 35 in Kennebunk. Beginning at the urban compact line in Kennebunk 210 feet north of Thompson Road and extending 3.74 miles northwest to the Kennebunk-Arundel town line.
- In Kennebunk, drainage maintenance on Route 9 and replacing culverts (#993381, #260120, #260106) on Route 9 in Kennebunk. Located 1.13, 1.80, and 1.82 miles east of the Wells/Kennebunk town line, respectively.
