2015 Franco-American Day Announced
Franco-American Legislative Caucus sets March 18th as Franco-American Day
AUGUSTA— Democratic State Senator Nate Libby, Senate chair of the Legislature’s Franco-American Caucus, is pleased to announce that the 14th Annual Franco-American Day will be held at the State Capitol in Augusta on Wednesday, March 18.
Events include the Presentation of Colors by the Franco-American Veterans and presentations by dignitaries from Canada, and the Province of Quebec. A press conference will be held at 11:30 a.m. to announce the nominees to the Franco-American Hall of Fame and recognize visiting dignitaries.
“It’s a great honor to co-chair the Legislature’s Franco Caucus and to celebrate this special day,” said Senator Libby of Lewiston. “We take this day to recognize the contributions of Franco-Americans across Maine who have done outstanding work in preserving and promoting Franco culture and the French language.”
A variety of musical groups from around Maine will be performing French Canadian and Franco-American music throughout the morning in the Hall of Flags.
Singer Melanie Saucier of Fort Kent will perform the national anthems of France, Canada and the United States in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The Cross Cafeteria in the adjacent State Office Building will be serving a Franco-American menu and there will be displays from Franco-American organizations throughout the state in the Hall of Flags.
Democratic State Representative John Martin of Eagle Lake is the House Chair and Republican Matt Pouliot is the Speaker Pro Temp of the Franco-American Heritage Day.
