Sen. Anne Carney welcomes Pond Cove Elementary School students to the Maine State House
AUGUSTA — On Tuesday, April 1, and Thursday, April 3, Sen. Anne Carney, D-Cape Elizabeth, welcomed fourth grade classes from Pond Cove Elementary School in Cape Elizabeth to the Maine State House. The students toured the State House, visited the Senate and House Chambers, and got to ask Sen. Carney questions about how the Legislature works.
“The enthusiasm and interest of these fourth graders in how their government works was incredible,” said Sen. Carney. “It is a pleasure to host school groups each spring, and I am always filled with hope for the future following our conversations. Thank you to Mr. T. and Mrs. Bucci for the efforts they have made to share their love of social studies, history and government with these students. I hope to see the names of these kids on the ballot when they grow up.”
On Tuesday, Mr. Alex Trammel’s class visited the State House. They were recognized during the Senate session by Senate President Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, and had the opportunity to meet Governor Janet T. Mills. On Thursday, Mrs. Tara Bucci’s class visited the State House. They were recognized during the House session by House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, D-Biddeford, participated in a mock Judiciary Committee meeting and were able to try out the Senate President’s gavel at the Senate Rostrum.
The Maine State House is open to the public Monday through Friday, and group and individual tours are available throughout the week.
