Sen. Bailey celebrated for perfect voting record on reproductive rights
AUGUSTA — Sen. Donna Bailey, D-Saco, earned a perfect score from Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund for votes to protect reproductive rights and improve access to fundamental health care. Sen. Bailey is one of 20 senators to earn a perfect score for their 2025 voting record.
“For as long as I have served in the Legislature, I have believed that Mainers deserve the right to make deeply personal decisions about how and when to start a family,” said Sen. Bailey. “In the Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services Committee, we worked on a bill — now law — to require health insurance companies to cover the cost of over-the-counter birth control. We also took action to protect medical providers who prescribe safe and effective medication for abortion care. Going forward, I remain committed to protecting Mainers’ access to reproductive health care.”
Planned Parenthood scored the votes of Maine legislators on 12 bills, including seven bills that would restrict access to abortion and reproductive care. This year, in the face of massive federal cuts, the Legislature invested $6 million in Maine’s family planning services network, which provides essential care for patients, including birth control, cancer screenings and testing and treatment of STIs, regardless of ability to pay. Sen. Bailey also supported a new law that will protect prescribers of safe, effective medication abortion by allowing a provider to omit their name from prescription labels.
Sen. Bailey has earned a perfect voting score from Planned Parenthood every year since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated the nationwide right to abortion.
