Sen. Brenner, Rep. Sato congratulate Legislative Memorial Scholarship winner from Cumberland County
AUGUSTA — On Wednesday, March 18, Sen. Stacy Brenner, D-Scarborough, and Rep. Ellie Sato, D-Gorham, congratulated Mina Sayed, who is the 2026 Legislative Memorial Scholarship winner from Cumberland County. A graduate of Gorham High School, Mina is currently pursuing nursing at Saint Joseph’s College. Mina was joined by her sister, Rona, at the ceremony in the Maine Senate and House chambers.
“Our state needs bright young leaders like Mina – particularly in the health care space, as workforce challenges remain a significant barrier to access in many communities,” said Sen. Brenner. “I know that our community will be better off for her present and future contributions as an aspiring nurse, and it was a privilege to honor her in the Legislature.”
“I was honored to recognize Mina for being awarded the Legislative Memorial Scholarship,” said Rep. Sato. “As a fellow Gorham resident, her hard work and dedication in the nursing program at Saint Joseph’s College is an inspiring example for others in our community. I’m glad to have shared this opportunity to celebrate her achievement.”

They must be either currently pursuing or planning to pursue education at a two- or four-year degree-granting Maine college or technical school. Awards are given to high school seniors or full- or part-time postsecondary students accepted to or enrolled in accredited Maine colleges for undergraduate or graduate degrees.
Legislative Memorial Scholarship applications are now open for the 2026-2027 school year. They are due by May 1, 2026. For more information, go to www.famemaine.com/fame_scholarship/maine-legislative-memorial-scholarship-fund/.
