Sen. Rotundo earns score of 100% from Maine Women’s Lobby

AUGUSTA — Sen. Peggy Rotundo, D-Lewiston, earned a perfect score from the Maine Women’s Lobby for votes during both sessions of the 132nd Legislature.

“The road to meaningful gender equity is long, and, as our federal political landscape makes clear, there is no shortage of work left to do,” said Sen. Rotundo. “I’m proud of the progress we made this year to protect and invest in women and girls’ safety and access to opportunity here in Maine. It has been so rewarding to be part of this greater journey from my seat in the Legislature for these past 25 years.”

Sen. Rotundo has been an outspoken advocate for women’s rights and health throughout her career in public service. This year, under her leadership as Senate chair of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee, the supplemental budget included $3 million to backfill federal cuts to services for survivors of sexual and domestic violence, $10 million in ongoing funding to expand access to affordable childcare and a 3% cost-of-living adjustment for direct care workers.

She also sponsored LD 2192, now law, to protect student and school staff safety by tightening investigation and disclosure processes when school employees are accused of sexual misconduct.

Sen. Rotundo is serving her sixth nonconsecutive term in the Maine Senate, representing Lewiston. She serves as the Senate chair of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee.
