MAZUREK SWORN IN TO MAINE STATE SENATE
“Committed to working for the people of Senate District 22”
AUGUSTA—Ed Mazurek of Rockland was sworn in to the Maine Senate at the State House in Augusta today. Senator Mazurek was elected to his first term in the State Senate in November,after serving four terms, eight years, in the Maine House of Representatives.
“We need to get to work immediately rebuilding our economy, getting Mainers back to work, and finding solutions to the major issues facing this state.,” said Senator Mazurek. “I’m committed to working for the people of Senate District 22, and for the entire state of Maine, to reach our full potential.”
Governor Paul LePage administered the oath of office to Mazurek and 34 of his Senate colleagues, all of whom have been elected to serve two-year terms. Mazurek represents Senate District 22, which is made up of most of Knox County.
A retired teacher and coach, Mazurek is a graduate of Xavier University with a BSBA degree. He earned his MA from Fairfield University. He is a former member of the Rockland City Council and served as Mayor in 2003 and 2004. He and his wife MaryEllen live in Rockland. They have five children and four grandchildren.
While a member of the House, Mazurek sponsored or cosponsored legislation to protect high school athletes from head injuries, improve highway funding, and prohibit texting while driving, and served on the Transportation Committee.
“Thank you to all the people who elected me,” said Senator Mazurek. “I appreciate all the effort and hard work, and I pledge to work for all of the people of District 22.”
Today marked the official start of the 126th Maine State Legislature however, the first day of the Regular Session is expected to begin on January 8, 2013.
Of the 35 Senate members, there are 19 Democrats, 15 Republicans, and 1 unenrolled member. Seven are women—all Democrats—and 28 are men: 12 Democrats, 15 Republicans, and 1 unenrolled. There are 17 new members: 10 have recently served in the House of Representatives, one is a former House member and 6 have no previous legislative experience, all Democrats. 18 are incumbents.
