STAN GERZOFSKY SWORN IN TO MAINE SENATE
AUGUSTA— Last week, Democratic Senator Stan Gerzofsky of Brunswick was sworn in to the Maine State Senate for the 127th Legislative session. Senator Gerzofsky is serving his fourth term representing Senate District 24, which includes Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, Pownal, and North Yarmouth.
“I am so proud to continue to represent the great people of my district,” said Senator Gerzofsky. “We will be confronting some great challenges this session, and I invite all my constituents to share their ideas and concerns so we can tackle these issues together.”
During his service in the Senate, Gerzofsky served as Chair of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee, as well as the Judiciary and Labor Committees. In the 126th Legislature, Senator Gerzofsky sponsored a wide range of legislation, including bills to reform Maine’s criminal code by making sentencing laws more efficient and more effective, and a bill to conserve mudflats and protect natural resources from the invasive green crab. Gerzofsky was first elected to the Maine House of Representatives representing Brunswick in 2000 and served in the House until 2008, when he ran for the Senate.
Wednesday, December 3, 2014 marked the official start of the 127th Maine State Legislature however, the first day of the Regular Session is expected to begin on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.
January 2 has been set as the cloture date for new bill ideas. Under Legislative rules, all new bill ideas must be submitted prior to that date.
