Committee unanimously approves Sen. Beebe-Center bill to support Maine State Ferry Service retirees
AUGUSTA — On May 15, 2025, The Transportation committee voted unanimously in favor of a bill sponsored by Sen. Pinny Beebe-Center, D-Rockland. The bill, LD 280, “An Act to Establish Lifetime Ferry Passes for Retired Maine State Ferry Service Employees,” would restore complimentary passenger and vehicle passes to eligible retired Maine State Ferry Service (MSFS) retirees.
“I am incredibly grateful for the committee’s unanimous support of this legislation. The impact this will have on our island retirees can’t be understated,” said Sen. Beebe-Center. “I have spoken with many MSFS retirees who have told me about how this bill will help them get groceries, get to the doctor and get gas for their cars. I am hopeful for my colleagues’ support in the Senate and House.”
As amended, LD 280 would allow eligible Maine State Ferry Service retirees to take two complimentary round trips a month with a vehicle, provided they give at least 24-hour notice for a reservation, and provided they are island residents.
The bill awaits votes in both the Senate and House.
