DEM LEADER RELEASES STATEMENT ON PUC DECISION
Hill says decision will unravel more than a decade of bipartisan energy policy
AUGUSTA -Assistant Democratic Leader Dawn Hill of York released the following statement in response to the Maine Public Utilities Commission 2 — 1 vote to limit funding for efficiency programs aimed at reducing electricity costs for Maine homeowners and businesses.
“This decision by two members of the PUC makes absolutely no sense. Underfunding a program that has a proven track record of helping businesses and homeowners save money on their energy bills is a short-sighted decision” said Senator Hill of York who serves on the Energy, Utility, and Technology Committee. “Worse, they are unraveling more than a decade of of bipartisan energy policy. This is a program we are expanding, not contracting. Unfortunately, it seems the two newest members of the PUC are putting Gov. LePage’s ideology ahead of what’s best for ratepayers.”
The PUC decision would put a $22 million annual limit on efficiency spending.
According to Efficiency Maine, for every dollar spent by Efficiency Maine, there is a net savings of $7.00 for consumers.
