DEMOCRATIC LEADER’S RESPONSE TO GOP ENERGY PLAN
AUGUSTA –Assistant Democratic Leader Senator Dawn Hill of York released the following statement about Rep. Fredette’s plan to exploit the clerical error in the omnibus energy law. Earlier today, Rep. Fredette proposed a measure that corrects the typographical error and also creates a Cabinet-level energy commissioner.
“I am appalled by Rep. Fredette’s actions. He is playing politics with Maine businesses and homeowners who have made decisions and investments based on what we all understood the law to be. They are counting on us to do the right thing by implementing a straightforward and clean solution.
He knows just as well as all of us that the omnibus energy bill was negotiated in good faith between both parties. The intent of the law was clear–and agreed upon by all. The honest solution is to make one change: insert the word “and” back into the document. Instead, Rep. Fredette is taking advantage of this clerical error and extracting new conditions.”
