GERZOFSKY SWORN IN TO MAINE STATE SENATE
“Committed to fighting for the people of my district”
AUGUSTA—Stan Gerzofsky of Brunswick was sworn in to the Maine Senate at the State House in Augusta today. Senator Gerzofsky was elected to his third term in the State Senate in November, after serving four terms, eight years, in the Maine House of Representatives.
“I am looking forward to getting to work,” said Senator Gerzofsky. “I am committed to fighting for the people of my district, and representing their interests, first and foremost.”
Governor Paul LePage administered the oath of office to Gerzofsky and 34 of his Senate colleagues, all of whom have been elected to serve two-year terms. Gerzofsky represents Senate District 10, which includes the communities of Brunswick, Freeport, Harspwell, and Pownal.
During his service in the Senate, Gerzofsky has focused on civil liberties and public safety issues, and served on the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.
“It’s an honor and privilege to serve the people of Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, and Pownal,” said Senator Gerzofsky. “I am proud to be part of this strong vibrant community: the beautiful downtown and scenic Brunswick, the natural resources and shopping mecca of Freeport, the working waterfront of Harpswell, and the rolling hills of Pownal.”
Today marked the official start of the 126th Maine State Legislature however, the first day of the Regular Session is expected to begin on January 8, 2013.
Of the 35 Senate members, there are 19 Democrats, 15 Republicans, and 1 unenrolled member. Seven are women—all Democrats—and 28 are men: 12 Democrats, 15 Republicans, and 1 unenrolled. There are 17 new members: 10 have recently served in the House of Representatives, one is a former House member and 6 have no previous legislative experience, all Democrats. 18 are incumbents.
