GOODALL TENDERS SENATE RESIGNATION TO HEAD-UP SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION IN NEW ENGLAND
AUGUSTA—Senate Majority Leader Seth Goodall of Richmond tendered his resignation as State Senator for District 19, which includes all of Sagadahoc County and Dresden. Goodall has been appointed by President Obama to serve as the New England Regional Administrator for the Small Business Administration (SBA).
In his resignation letter to Governor LePage, Goodall said, “It has been an honor to serve my district and the people of the State of Maine. I have the deepest respect for my colleagues, the institution, and the people of Maine.”
Goodall added, “Leaving the Legislature is bittersweet. I thoroughly enjoyed public service and having the opportunity to help the people of my district.”
This session, Senator Goodall chaired the Joint Select Committee on Maine’s Workforce and Economic Future and passed a first-of-its-kind workforce development bill. In previous legislative sessions, Senator Goodall served and chaired the Environment and Natural Resources committee.
“In my new position at the SBA, I look forward to continuing my efforts to sustain and grow small businesses, the backbone of our communities, throughout Maine and New England.”
Senator Goodall was first elected to the Senate in 2008. During his tenure, he served on theJoint Standing Committee on the Environment and Natural Resources, and the Joint Select Committee on Regulatory Reform and Fairness, and the Joint Select Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs. Senator Goodall’s resignation is effective upon adjournment sine die of the first regular session of the 126th Maine Legislature.
A special election will be held to fill the Senate District 19 seat. A date for the election will be determined by the Governor and the Secretary of State.
