Jackson responds to LePage State of the State Address

AUGUSTA–Senate Democratic Leader Troy Jackson of Allagash released the following statement in response to Governor LePage’s Sate of the State address on Tuesday.

“Maine should work for everyone, not just the a handful of people at the top. While I respect some of what the governor had to say tonight, the reality is we need to do more to ensure Mainers can get ahead.”

“The governor is right – Mainers want a fair shot at getting ahead, and our work in Augusta should reflect that. Full-time work should mean fair pay, which is why we have staunchly opposed any rollbacks to the minimum wage. We need to lower property taxes so Mainers can afford to stay in their homes while essential municipal services like schools and police departments can continue to function. And we need to make sure more Mainers have access to health care so they can actively participate in the workforce and economy.”

“Mainers are smart, hardworking and resilient people. They deserve a Maine that works for them, not against. As lawmakers, it is on us to make that happen and fight for them at every turn.”
