Sen. Nate Libby, D-Lewiston, was honored with Public Policy and Leadership Award from the Maine Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MAND) at their annual Legislative Breakfast on March 22.
Sen. Libby was chosen for the award for his efforts to reduce obesity and related chronic diseases by making medical nutritional therapy provided by physicians, licensed dietitians and dietitian nutritionists reimbursable under MaineCare in any patient setting. LD 1162 has received unanimous, bipartisan support in the Maine House and Senate.
“Dietitians around the state do incredible work every day to improve Mainers’ health and I was proud to work alongside them on LD 1162,” said Sen. Libby. “Helping Mainers avoid the additional, preventable, medical problems and costs associated with obesity not only makes prudent fiscal sense, but it is the right thing to do.”
