Miramant to serve on Natural Resources and Infrastructure Committee

AUGUSTA — Sen. Dave Miramant, D-Camden, has been appointed to the National Conference on State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Natural Resources and Infrastructure Committee.

The appointment was made by the President of the Senate. Sen. Miramant will serve as a representative from the Maine Senate.

“As a member of the Transportation Committee in the Legislature and a defender of Maine’s clean air, water, and vast forests, I am honored to be picked to represent the Maine Senate on this committee,” said Sen. Miramant. “I look forward to pushing the national discussion forward on these issues.”

Last week, the Legislature’s Transportation Committee voted overwhelmingly to recommend passage of one of Miramant’s bills that would give municipalities additional tools to invest in alternative transportation, such as passenger rail and public transit. The measure will be taken up by the full Legislature in the coming weeks.

The Natural Resources and Infrastructure Committee is one of nine standing committees of the NCSL. The committee educates Congress and federal agencies about state concerns. In addition, the committee also serves as a forum for state legislators and legislative staff to learn about and share information regarding programs and initiatives in other states. In particular, this committee has jurisdiction over state and federal energy, environment, agriculture and transportation programs, legislation, regulations and policies.

NCSL is a national organization that serves the interests of state legislatures by providing states support, ideas, and connections for policy and effectiveness.
