Sen. Bailey welcomes Old Orchard Beach High School state champions to the State House, presents legislative sentiments
AUGUSTA — On Tuesday, March 21, Sen. Donna Bailey, D-Saco, welcomed the Old Orchard Beach High School football team and girls basketball team to the State House. The girls basketball team won their first-ever Class C state title. The football team won their first Class C state title since 1993. Basketball players Elise MacNair and Landen Johnson scored their 1,000th career points this season.
“These hardworking, talented student athletes added their own history to Women’s History Month. I’m so proud of the girls basketball team for winning their first-ever state championship,” said Sen. Bailey. “I was also happy to congratulate the football team for winning their first state title in over 25 years.”
Both teams had student athletes who received a number of awards. For the girls basketball team, Elise MacNair was named to the Western Maine Conference First Team, won the Bob Butler Award for being the top female basketball player in the Western Maine Conference and was a Miss Maine Basketball finalist. Tess Ferguson and Sarah Davis were named to the Western Maine Conference Second Team; Summer St. Louis received Honorable Mention. Coach Dean Plante was named the Class C Girls Coach of the Year.
For the football team, the team won the Maine Principal Association’s Sportsmanship Award for the third year in a row. Players Brady Plante, Riley Provencher, Derrick Webber and Kyan Chase were named to First Team Offense; Brady Croteau was named to Second Team Offense. Shiloh Thao, Ian Blake, Riley Provencher and Reid MacNair were named to First Team Defense; Levi Perrone and Derrick Webber were named to Second Team Defense. Brayden Manseur received Honorable Mention, and Elijah Vasque was named to the Second Team Special. Coach Dean Plante was named the National Federation of State High School Associations Coach of the Year and the Campbell Coach of the Year; assistant coach Jason Webber was named the Campbell Conference Assistant Coach of the Year.
