Sen. Baldacci celebrated for perfect voting record on reproductive rights

AUGUSTA — Sen. Joe Baldacci, D-Bangor, earned a perfect score from Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund for votes to protect reproductive rights and improve access to fundamental health care. Sen. Baldacci is one of 20 senators to earn a perfect score for their 2025 voting record.

“I’m very happy to have received this recognition from Planned Parenthood,” said Sen. Baldacci. “Defending fundamental rights to health and reproductive care in Maine will always be one of my top priorities and I’m proud that my advocacy on this issue has been recognized by this organization.”

Planned Parenthood scored the votes of Maine legislators on 12 bills, including seven bills that would restrict access to abortion and reproductive care. This year, in the face of massive federal cuts, the Legislature invested $6 million in Maine’s family planning services network, which provides essential care for patients, including birth control, cancer screenings and testing and treatment of STIs, regardless of ability to pay. Sen. Baldacci also supported a new law that will protect prescribers of safe, effective medication abortion by allowing a provider to omit their name from prescription labels.

Sen. Baldacci earned a perfect voting score from Planned Parenthood every year since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated the nationwide right to abortion in 2022.
