Sen. Baldacci earns high marks from unions for pro-worker voting record
AUGUSTA — Sen. Joe Baldacci, D-Bangor, earned high marks from the Maine AFL-CIO for his votes to support working Maine families. Sen. Baldacci is one of 22 Senators to earn a 90 or perfect score from the AFL-CIO.
“I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to support hardworking Mainers across the state,” said Sen. Baldacci. “All Maine workers deserve to have someone in the Legislature who is looking out for them, and Bangor and Hermon have some of the hardest workers in Maine. I am privileged to be their voice in the Senate.”
Sen. Baldacci has a long history of supporting Maine workers, including being a co-sponsor for Sen. Mattie Daughtry’s, D-Brunswick, statewide Paid Family and Medical Leave Program in 2023. He also voted in favor of additional patrol routes for law enforcement in Hermon and raising the minimum wage for childcare workers. Sen. Baldacci has also continued his work for Maine workers on the State and Local Government Committee.
Maine AFL-CIO, a statewide federation of more than 200 labor unions, based their scorecard on legislators’ votes on 11 bills, including the bipartisan supplemental budget and:
- LD 1983: “An Act to Establish the Maine Buy American and Build Maine Act,” sponsored by Pres. Troy Jackson, D-Allagash
- LD 1726: “An Act to Build Maine’s Economy by Supporting Child Care for Working Families,” sponsored by Pres. Troy Jackson, D-Allagash and cosponsored by Sen. Baldacci
- LD 1756, “An Act to Enhance the Predictability of Mandated Overtime for Pulp or Paper Manufacturing Facility Employees,” sponsored by Pres. Troy Jackson, D-Allagash
- LD 373, “An Act to Improve Labor Conditions for Maine Workers,” sponsored by Sen. Mike Tipping, D-Orono
The Maine AFL-CIO represents more than 40,000 Maine workers and retirees delivering public services or working at paper mills, shipyards, hospitals, construction sites, nonprofits, utilities, and in many other industries.
