Sen. Brenner welcomes Gorham High School ice hockey captain to the Maine Senate

AUGUSTA – On Wednesday, Sen. Stacy Brenner, D-Scarborough, welcomed Emerson Homa, a senior at Gorham High School and captain of the Gorham Co-op Varsity Girls Ice Hockey Team, to the State House. The Gorham Co-op team consists of students from Gorham, Fryeberg, Massabesic, Bonny Eagle, Lake Regional and Westbrook. Sen. Brenner also welcomed Emerson’s mother Carlye Homan, BSN RN, who is also a school nurse for Gorham High School.

“Emerson is a shining young athlete whose dedication, talent and passion have set her apart as a true standout in the world of high school hockey,” said Sen. Brenner. “Emerson is captain of the Gorham Girls Co-op hockey team. Her performance on the ice has earned her the prestigious title of best female high school hockey player in Maine and the esteemed Becky Schaffer Trophy.”

Homa led the Gorham Co-op team to the Class A South regional finals. She led Maine girl hockey players with 45 goals in 21 games. At the Maine Senior Girls All-Star Hockey game, Homa was named the best girls hockey player in the state of Maine. Homa was presented with a legislative sentiment for winning the prestigious Becky Schaffer Trophy. She plans on attending University of Massachusetts in Boston and continuing her hockey career.
