AUGUSTA — Sen. Anne Carney, D-Cape Elizabeth, has been appointed to the Right To Know Advisory Committee by Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash.

“With my background in municipal and civil rights law, as well as my current role as Senate Chair of the Judiciary Committee, I appreciate how fundamental the public’s right to know is to conducting the people’s business,” said Sen. Carney. “State and local government deliberations and actions must be taken openly, and the public’s right to access public records must be respected. That’s how we best serve Mainers throughout our state.”

The Right To Know Advisory Commission is responsible for enforcing compliance with public records and proceedings related to freedom of access laws. It consists of 16 members and meets at least annually to report to the three branches of government. Sen. Carney, as Chair of the Judiciary Committee and a civil rights attorney, will bring her experiences to this new role.
