Sen. Carpenter responds to Maine Supreme Court ruling on RCV

AUGUSTA — On Tuesday, the Maine Supreme Court ruled that ranked-choice voting is the law of the land and will be used in the upcoming primary elections on June 14. In response to the decision, Sen. Mike Carpenter, D-Houlton, and former attorney general, released the following statement:

“I am not surprised with the latest ruling by the Maine Supreme Court. It was clear to me and many of my colleagues that ranked-choice voting is the law of the land – whether folks like it or not – and the Secretary of State is acting well within his authority in taking the steps to implement this new system. I am hopeful we can now move forward in a productive, bipartisan manner and let the Secretary of State do his job.”
