Sen. Claxton shares MDOT work plan for state bridge and road projects
AUGUSTA – Sen. Ned Claxton, D-Auburn, is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for Senate District 20. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.
“It’s great to see all these projects that will be happening in our community throughout 2022,” said Sen. Claxton. “I want to thank the employees at the Department of Transportation for all their hard work and dedication in making sure Mainers all over the state can rely on safe and accessible roads, bridges and trails when they need to travel.”
According to the MDOT, the work plan covers approximately $3.17 billion worth of construction and maintenance, which includes 2,316 work items. The three-year plan estimates MDOT will invest in 115 miles of highway construction and rehabilitation; 1,057 miles of pavement preservation; 2,162 miles of light capital paving for roads and highways; 353 safety and spot improvements; and 235 bridge projects.
The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work for some communities in Senate District 20 in 2022:
Bridge Rehabilitation
- In Auburn, replacing wearing surface and sidewalks on Iron Bridge (#3895) which carries Main Street over Little Androscoggin River. Located 210 feet north of Route 136
Highway Paving/Rehabilitation
- In Auburn, highway rehabilitation on Broad Street beginning 0.01 of a mile north of Mill Street and extending southeast 0.13 of a mile to Broad Street, and continuing on Broad Street for 0.06 of a mile. ATRC Sponsored.
- In Auburn, highway construction and rehabilitation on Hotel Road beginning at East Hardscrabble Road and extending north 0.50 of a mile to Lewiston Junction Road. ATRC Sponsored.
- In Poland, drainage maintenance on Route 11 replacing culvert (#1051507) on Route 11 in Poland. Located 0.39 of a mile north of Tripp Lake Road.
- In Auburn and New Gloucester, highway paving on Route 202/202S beginning 0.20 of a mile south of the Auburn town line and extending north 3.78 miles. Continuing 0.02 of a mile south of Chasse Street and extending south 2.16 miles.
Highway Safety and Spot Improvements
- In Auburn, highway safety and spot improvements in various locations including Fiber optic interconnect, vehicle detection, signal upgrades, and ADA improvements at selected intersections. ATRC Sponsored.
- In New Gloucester, ditching on Route 231 beginning 0.30 of a mile south of Valley Farm Road and extending north 3.00 miles
Light Capital Paving
- In Auburn, light capital paving on Turner Street beginning 0.06 of a mile north of Plummer Street and extending south 0.13 of a mile, and also extending from Route 4 north 1.19 miles.
- In Auburn, light capital paving on Hotel Road beginning 0.33 of a mile south of Youngs Corner Road and extending north 0.93 of a mile to Whitman Spring Road.
- In Auburn, light capital paving on Lake Street beginning .34 of a mile northwest of Colonial Way and extending northwest .63 of a mile to Hotel Road.
- In Auburn, light capital paving on Lewiston Junction Road beginning at Aviation Avenue and extending northeast 1.02 miles to Hotel Road.
- In Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland, light capital paving on Route 121 beginning 0.73 of a mile east of North Main Street and extending southeast 2.85 miles.
- In New Gloucester, light capital paving on Allen Road beginning at Route 231 and extending east 1.83 miles.
