Sen. Craig Hickman earns perfect score from Democracy Maine

AUGUSTA — Sen. Craig Hickman, D-Winthrop, received a perfect score from Democracy Maine’s 2021 Legislative Scorecard for his voting record to clean up state government, get money out of politics and safeguard democracy. Sen. Hickman was one of 15 members of the Maine Senate to earn a perfect score.

“We have a responsibility to do everything in our power to proactively ensure that all eligible voters can vote, including our friends and neighbors who are registered to vote but not enrolled in a political party,” said Sen. Hickman “I am honored to have received a perfect score from Democracy Maine’s 2021 Legislative Scorecard.”

This session, Sen. Hickman voted in favor of a host of bills to safeguard democracy. He voted in favor of legislation to ban corporate contributions to political candidates running for state office, fully implement ranked-choice voting, open up Maine’s primary system to unenrolled voters and include racial impact statements as part of the legislative process.

Democracy Maine is a collaboration between three nonpartisan organizations — the League of Women Voters of Maine, Maine Citizens for Clean Elections and Maine Students Vote — that work together to lead Maine in advocating for voter rights, campaign finance reform, modern and secure elections, government ethics, and voter education and engagement.
